ARI LaTeX Editor — Usage Guide & Sharing Guidelines

ARI now offers a native LaTeX editor for fellows and supervisors — powered by Overleaf Community Edition, integrated with your existing aribd.org login. Write papers, theses, and notes in LaTeX without a separate account or password.

Sign in at aribd.org/login, then open LaTeX from the portal icon rail (document icon).

One login — no Overleaf signup

LaTeX uses single sign-on (SSO) with the same ARI credentials you use for Workspace and AI Suite.

When you click Open on a project, you are signed into latex.aribd.org automatically — no extra login screen.

Two ways to work

1. Project hub — aribd.org/latex

The LaTeX section in the portal is your project home:

• Create a new project (name it, then open the editor)
• Open any project you can access
• Share with institute members using a searchable ARI account picker (name, email, role)
• Open full editor — jump to the Overleaf dashboard if you prefer the classic layout

2. Native editor — latex.aribd.org

The editor itself is a full Overleaf experience:

• File tree, code editor, and live PDF preview
• Compile on save
• Real-time collaboration when you share a project
• Share Project inside the editor — click the email field and pick from ARI members (institute accounts appear in the suggestion list)

Tip: If member suggestions do not appear in the editor, close the tab and reopen the project from aribd.org/latex so your session refreshes.

Sharing guidelines

Sharing is restricted to ARI platform accounts — the same people who can log in to aribd.org.

From the portal (recommended)

1. Go to aribd.org/latex
2. Click Share on a project card
3. Search or scroll the ARI members list
4. Select a fellow, supervisor, or co-supervisor and confirm

From the editor

1. Open a project in latex.aribd.org
2. Click Share (top bar)
3. In Add email address, start typing or click the field — ARI members should appear
4. Select a member and click Invite as Editor (or Viewer if read-only is enough)

Link sharing should stay off for institute work — invite named ARI accounts instead so access stays auditable.

Who can see which projects?

Role	Project visibility
Fellow	Projects you own + projects shared with you
Supervisor / Co-supervisor	All institute LaTeX projects
Admin	All projects

Supervisors can open any fellow's project for review without a separate invite. Fellows only see their own work and collaborations explicitly shared with them.

Step-by-step: first project

1. Sign in at aribd.org/login
2. Open aribd.org/latex
3. Enter a name under New project (e.g. Thesis draft, Paper outline)
4. Click Create & open — the editor loads with a blank main.tex
5. Edit, compile, and download PDF from the editor toolbar
6. To collaborate: Share from the portal or from Share Project in the editor

Best practices

• Open from the portal at least once per session so SSO and member lists stay in sync
• Use institute emails when sharing — external addresses are not supported
• Name projects clearly (supervisor name + topic helps staff find your work)
• Keep link sharing off unless a supervisor explicitly asks otherwise
• Do not store secrets in LaTeX projects (same as Workspace and AI Suite)

Troubleshooting

Problem	What to try
"Cannot reach the server" on login	Hard refresh aribd.org/login; use Chrome/Firefox
Editor asks for Overleaf login	Go back to aribd.org/latex and click Open again
No ARI members in Share	Reopen project from the portal; hard refresh (Cmd+Shift+R)
Cannot see a fellow's project	Ask them to share from the portal, or check you are logged in as supervisor

• Accounts: ARI AdminUser rows are mirrored into Overleaf automatically
• Sharing API: institute directory served to the editor's contact picker
